Challenge:

The Georgia World Congress Center needed to replace an existing canopy, covering the entrance to their registration hall at GWCC Building B. As the most commonly used entrance for the facility, the new structure was designed to have clear and opaque polycarbonate panels, allowing natural lighting and versatile lighting controls to change colors. The new construction required a unique solution as the new canopy needed to be manufactured and installed taking into account the surfaces on-site. The existing structure was completed in the 1980’s creating some unique challenges to ensure the new canopy would be plumb and level. 

Solution:

Panel Built Project Manager Tony Hanson and our installers worked with Manhattan Construction to create a plan to work within the allowable limits on-site. With the canopy located on an elevated roadway, strict weight loading limits were required, creating a complicated process for staging materials, workspace, and installation. All installation would have to be completed with forklifts. Fabrication, erection, and sequencing plans had to be redesigned to accommodate all these challenges. This was the key ingredient to success. The installation was able to overcome 40 weather impacted days, tight work areas, and other unforeseen conditions on-site.
